‘Batman V Superman’ Deleted Scene: What Is Lex Luthor Doing?
In case you hadn’t heard, theBatman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeUltimate Editionis coming this summer, and as we’ve previously revealed, it will have30 minutes of additional footage. Even though the theatrical cut just debuted this past weekend, Warner Bros. Pictures has decided to unveil a deleted scene from the movie, perhaps one that will be put back into the movie for the Ultimate Edition.
To discuss what theBatman v Supermandeleted scene might hint at will be to dive intospoiler territory, so you’ll have to watch it after the jump to see what Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) is up to and what it might mean for the future of the DC cinematic universe.

This appears to be how Lex Luthor was apprehended after Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman have dispatched with Doomsday, albeit at the cost of Superman’s death, something that Zack Snyder has said was inevitable. The theatrical cut never shows how Luthor ends up in prison at the end of the movie, and if this scene ends up in the Ultimate Edition, it stands to reason that maybe more unanswered questions will be answered by the Ultimate Edition.
The question is, what’s going on here? Lex Luthor is doing something in the chamber where he created Doomsday, but the liquid in the ship that belonged to General Zod seems to be much more bloody than it was when the villain was created. But the really mysterious part is that strange creature who is levitating and then sending away theMother Boxes.
For those who don’t know, Mother Boxes are technology that comes fromDarkseid’s home of Apokolips. Darkseid is a signature Superman villain, and his arrival is more than hinted at inBatman v Superman. His Omega symbol can be seen in the Knightmare sequence that Bruce Wayne has where he’s apprehended by Superman’s soldiers and flying creatures known as parademons. Darkseid is the “he” that Lex Luthor refers to when Batman confronts him at the end of the film, so maybe this is how Luthor has beckoned him to Earth for a future fight with Justice League.
If the cubes look familiar, that’s because it’s the same kind of box that turned Victor Stone into Cyborg in the footage that was obtained from the stolen files of Lex Luthor. That scene was a bit confusing for those who weren’t hardcore DC Comics fans, but it appears there will be much more to come concerning the Mother Boxes in the future.
There are a lot of unanswered questions fromBatman v Superman, and while that made the story in the movie a little messy and overly complex, I will say that I’m intrigued to see how we get answers to those questions with future movies. But hopefully the answers come with more of a focused, less meandering narrative.
