Christopher Nolan “Lives And Dies With Each New Bit Of Information About” Star Wars 7
These days, so many of us get on the Internet with one thing in mind: MoreStar Wars. Since October of 2013 when it was announced thatEpisode VIIof theStar Warssaga was coming, many of us spend every day, at least partially, thinking about it. With just over a year to go until release, this has begun to speed up, especially with rumors of a first trailer coming and the official title:Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
It’s pretty obvious numerous famous filmmakers are also in this boat.Star Warswas as influential and formative for them as it was all of us. But few would guessChristopher Nolan, director ofInterstellar, would fly his flag forStar Wars fandom. We knew he liked the films and was influenced by them but, in a new interview, he says he “lives and dies with each new bit of information about ‘Star Wars.'”

As for his fandom,The Daily Beasttalked to the director and he said this when asked aboutJ.J. Abramstaking onStar Wars: The Force Awakensand whether or not he could have/would have made the film:
I’m pretty excited to see what J.J. is going to do with that. I’m excited to see that he’s shooting on film and actually built the Millennium Falcon. As far as whether or not I would have ever done it, the truth is I think I’d be afraid to touch it! He’s boldly going where he went before inStar Trek, and it takescolossalballs. I’m a lot more comfortable trying to do my own thing than carrying the weight and expectation of the entire world—particularly 40-somethings like me who live and die with each new bit of information aboutStar Wars. But I’m very excited to see what he does.
I honestly can’t picture Nolan reading message boards and fan theories aboutThe Force Awakens. I think he’s a bit too much of a purist for that. I’m sure, for him, “each bit of information” boils down to only what’s officially revealed. But still, I love hearing this kind of humanizing quote for the filmmaker and the image of him posting of Star Wars messages boards just makes me laugh.
