Cool Stuff: Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘The Devil’s Backbone’ And ‘Cronos’ Posters

Mondo has just released the final two posters in theirGuillermo Del ToroDirector’s Series and, big surprise, they’re gorgeous. ArtistsVania ZouravliovandAaron Horkeyhave teamed up to make a poster for Del Toro’s 2001 filmThe Devil’s Backbone, andMartin Ansinhas created a poster for Del Toro’s directorial debut,Cronos.The Devil’s Backbone, available in three different versions, goes on sale Friday andCronoswill be sometime later. Check out the full images of all of them after the break.

All the posters are 24 x 36 inches. The top row isThe Devil’s Backbonestandard (edition of 350, $60) and first Variant, next row is Variant 2 (both variants edition of 90, $90) andCronosStandard, then finally theCronosVariant. ThoseCronoseditions and prices are TBD.

This whole series has been especially beautiful but these two latest posters (or five, with variants) really pinpoint what Mondo does better than anyone else. Not to begrudge other people who are putting out awesome posters, but only Mondo makes posters for small, niche films like these and sells them out in minutes. Making aHellboyposter is cool and it looks great, but it’s exciting to imagine there’s a person out there who loves these early Del Toro films so much, has never seen any merchandise from them, and freaks out that someone took the time to pay homage to these films in such a beautiful and artistic way.
