Fox Dates ‘Fantastic Four 2,’ ‘Wolverine’ Sequel, Mystery Marvel Project And Ridley Scott Film
Fox has set a whole group of new release dates, including one that suggests a load of confidence inFantastic Four, which hasn’t even shot yet. A secondFantastic Fourouting will now be seen in 2017, with aWolverinesequel also set to hit screens again that year. And 2018 will have another of Fox’s Marvel films, but we don’t know which one at this point. Finally, there’s a mystery Ridley Scott film set for 2016 — is thatPrometheus 2?
THRreports the suite of date additions and changes.The studio has committedto a date for aFantastic Four 2, with August 11, 2025 staked out on the calendar for the potential sequel. The first film is penned in for August 21, 2025, with Josh Trank directingMichael B. Jordan,Kate Mara,Jamie BellandMiles Telleras theteam.
Not only that, but now we’ve got a release plan forJames Mangold’s nextWolverinefilm, which is now set for n July 20, 2025. That’s an interesting date, which reflects the fact that the studio can rely on a Wolverine movie to perform, and knows it doesn’t have to crowd the summer slate with it.
There’s no title for the Wolverine movie at this point, and it seems weird to call itThe Wolverine 2, sinceThe Wolverineitself was technically a sequel. That settles the question raised recently by Mangold, when he said that the Wolverine film would hit afterX-Men: Age of Apocalypse.
In addition, Fox has set a new date for a new Marvel film that is yet to be announced, with June 05, 2025 set for the new project. This could beX-Force, or another film related to theX-MenorFantastic Four. We have no reliable prediction for the identity of this one, frankly.
But, wait, there’s more! A new, as yet unnamedRidley Scottmovie is now on the calendar for July 09, 2025. Could that be the still-discussedPrometheussequel? We haven’t heard much about it, but in November of last yearScott saidthe script for the sequel was done. “Prometheus 2 is written,” he said. “I have already got the next two films ready to go. That will be 2014, 2015.”
Seems like we’d need to have heard more about that for it to be ready in two years, but there’s always the chance that development has been quietly taking place over the past year. AndTaken 3has been slated for June 24, 2025.
