‘Jackass 4’ Could Still Happen, According To Johnny Knoxville
It’s been eight years since theJackasscrew assembled for their third big screen outing featuring an assembly of insane, vulgar and dangerous stunts. Following the debut ofJackass 3Din 2010, they followed it up with a straight-to-DVD round-up of footage that didn’t make the cut and called itJackass 3.5. Now thatAction Pointbombed hard at the box office, it sounds like there’s a chanceJohnny Knoxvillemight go back to the well and get the old gang together for some new shenanigans.
Speaking withEntertainment Weekly, theJackassfranchise star was inevitably asked about the possibility of revivingJackassfor a fourth round at the movies. After all,Action Pointonly made$2.3 million at the box officein its opening weekend, and it felt like a poor excuse to capitalize on Knoxville’s association withJackassin a much more lame, tame manner. For his part, Knoxville certainly isn’t ruling it out:
“It’s possible, for sure. It’s not like we’re saying no. If we did do a new one, we’d have to bring in some new younger guys— just to bring some fresh blood into it. But it’s possible. I still write ideas down, just in case I get that twitch again. We’re sitting on a ton of new ideas. There was so many that we didn’t get to shoot forJackass 3.[Many unused bits that they did film wound up on 2011’s straight-to-videoJackass 3.5.] We have more ideas than we could shoot forJackass 4, I’ll tell you that.”
So it sounds like Knoxville and theJackasscrew would only need the greenlight and word from Paramount Pictures and MTV Films to start pulling off new stunts. But like Knoxville says, these guys aren’t the young bucks they were when they pulled off their first movie in 2002, which adapted the popular MTV series that had people doing stupid stuff on camera before YouTube was even a thing.
Speaking of which, part of me wonders if the advent of YouTube might make the prospect of aJackassmovie a little less enticing. Sure, there’s the appeal that comes from these specific guys getting together to be morons, but we can see that idiocy in droves thanks to the internet. Then again, most of the stuff theJackasscrew has done isn’t all that appealing to everyday people, so maybe it won’t be an issue.
