Peyton Reed Spills Details On ‘Ant-Man’ Alternate Ending
Like all Marvel movies,Ant-Mantries to stand on its own while also laying the groundwork for future films. The latter part of that equation is especially visible toward the end of the movie, as the ending itself and thetwo credits scenesthat follow set up developments that’ll (presumably) pay off later on.
However, directorPeyton Reednow reveals he once had a very different conclusion in mind – one that would’ve tied up a big loose end left dangling at the end ofAnt-Man. Read all about the Ant-Man alternate ending after the jump. (Spoilers follow.)
As it stands now,Ant-Manends with Luis (Michael Peña) relaying some crucial information to Scott (Paul Rudd) through another of his delightful montages: Luis has heard through the grapevine that the Avengers are looking for Scott.
But in a conversation withCinemaBlend, Reed explained thatAnt-Manwas originally supposed to end in a very different way: with a showdown against Mitchell Carson (Michael Donovan):
At the end of the movie he gets away and has these Cross particles, and there was a sequence where Ant-Man has an encounter with him. But then for a couple reasons, it felt like maybe we should leave those particles out there. In that original thing, he took Martin Donovan out and got the particles.
To back up a bit, you might remember Mitchell Carson as the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who got punched in the face by Hank (Michael Douglas) in the 1980s. He resurfaces in the present day as a HYDRA agent interested in buying the Yellowjacket technology from Darren Cross (Corey Stoll). In the skirmish that ensues, he gets away with the Cross particles.
Reed spilled these details when asked howCaptain America: Civil WaraffectedAnt-Man. That doesn’t necessarily mean the Cross particles will come into play in that movie (though Ant-Man does appear), but it suggests they’ll become important at some point in the future of the MCU.
