The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter Trailer
Here’s a fun game: take a shot every time someone says “whitetail deer” in this trailer. You’ll be blotto in no time! InThe Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter, Josh Brolin plays Buck Ferguson, the host of a hunting show who “plans a special episode of his hunting show around a bonding weekend with his estranged son, Jaden (Montana Jordan). With trusted – but hapless – cameraman and friend Don (Danny McBride) in tow, Buck sets out for what soon becomes an unexpectedly epic adventure of father-son reconnection in the great outdoors.”
Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunteris a reunion for the team ofJody Hilland Danny McBride. The film is helmed by Hill, director ofObserve and Reportand the HBO showsEastbound and DownandVice Principals. And the script was penned by Hill,Vice PrincipalswriterJohn Carcieriand co-star McBride. That’s a pretty damn impressive lineup of funny people who have previously produced very funny things. And the footage in this trailer looks amusing.
That said, the early buzz onLegacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunterisn’t great. The film is currently sitting at an embarrassing 17% onRotten Tomatoes, with critics saying thingslike, “There are some real missed opportunities here,“and: “The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunteris definitely the worst film Hill and McBride have made together, but if you’re a longtime fan, there’s still plenty to giggle at here.”
Our own Jacob Hall saw the film at SXSW, and was equally unimpressed.

Of course, as is the case with all films, you should make up your own mind. Maybe you, dear reader, will find plenty to love about this film. At the very least, it’s yet another showcase for Brolin, who has appeared inAvengers: Infinity War,Deadpool 2andSicario: Day of the Soldadoin the last few months. He’s a busy fellow. Also: Carrie Coon and Scoot McNairy are both in this, and they’re both pretty swell!
