UFC Champion Georges St-Pierre Joining ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’
DirectorsAnthonyandJoe Russoare courting some big names for small roles in their superhero sequel,Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Last weekRobert Redfordwas announced to be in talksfor the film and now it looks like one of the greatest fighters in the world has been cast, too.
Latino ReviewreportsGeorges St-Pierre, considered one of the greatest mixed martial artists in the world and the current UFC Welterweight Champion, has been cast as a villain named Batroc the Leaper.
According toLatino-Review, here’s what you should know about Batroc:
Batroc has no superhuman abilities, but is in peak physical condition in every respect. He is an Olympic-level weightlifter and has extraordinary agility and reflexes. His leg muscles are particularly well-developed which enables him to leap great distances with the strength of an Olympic athlete. He is an expert hand-to-hand combatant and specializes in savate (French-style kickboxing). He is also a skilled military tactician, having formerly been in the French Foreign Legion.
Batroc is an experienced thief and smuggler, who also speaks French and English. Although, as a mercenary, he does not hesitate to perform any number of criminal acts for his clients, Batroc has, by his own rights, a strong sense of honor, and he will turn against any client whom he feels has unfairly deceived him into committing crimes to which he might not otherwise have agreed.
Aside from the illegal activities that sounds almost exactly like St-Pierre, making this a pretty fantastic piece of casting. Disney/Marvel refused to comment, because they don’t comment on casting until production has begun, so don’t expect official word untilCaptain America: The Winter Soldierbegins production in the coming weeks.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, starsChris Evans,Sebastian Stan,Anthony Mackie,Frank Grillo,Toby Jones,Scarlett Johansson,Samuel L. Jackson,Cobie Smulders, Robert Redford,a reported cameo fromHayley Atwell, andEmily VanCampas the new female lead. It is scheduled to land in theatersApril 4, 2014.
