Warner Bros. Registers Domains For Different ‘Batman Vs. Superman’ Titles
Warner Bros. has yet to formally announce a title to theMan of Steelsequel, set for release in July 2015, which will feature Batman. Rumors swirled it would be calledBatman vs. Superman, and a member of the crew even called the film that during some early filming in Los Angeles. Apparently, though, the studio has yet to make a final decision and has registered multiple domains for multiple different titles to the film, all of which focus on calling the film “Man of Steel” in some way. They also registered the shorter versions of all those. IE – “Battle The Knight,” “Beyond Darkness,” etc.
In a way, the idea to keep the film closely tied toMan of Steeldoes makes sense. Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot was a massive hit this year. But isn’t the name “Superman” much more recognizable after decades in pop culture? And as popular as Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” films were, isn’t the name “Batman” more iconic?
While the studio is obviously struggling with this a bit, and a few of the above titles aren’t bad,Batman vs. Supermanfeels so clean, iconic and evocative. It also separates the film fromMan of Steelin a way that says, “We’re expanding this universe with more characters.”
Then again, if they’re considering these titles, it seems the studio might want this movie more tied to Superman than Batman. They also might not want to promise something the film might not deliver, which would be two hours of our most iconic superheroes doing battle. Maybe for all the discussions we’ve had as fans, that’s simply not what this film is about.
